ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The placement of more than 80 asylum-seekers bused to a Rotterdam motel from New York City seems to have come as a complete surprise to town, state and Schenectady County officials. The move is said to be a one-year contact between the motel owner and downstate officials, but it ended up displacing the motel's guests, some of them long-term residents, who are also in need of emergency housing. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A family in north St. Louis County mourned the loss of their son. Devyn Bolden, 18, was struck and killed on Halls Ferry Road while riding a motorized scooter last Thursday.Bolden's mom said he volunteered at the animal shelter and the library. She said he knew how to play several instruments and loved music, but his long-term goal was to work hard and become a rescue swimmer for the U.S. Coast Guard."He liked records. LOUIS – Despite dozens of vacancies inside the St. Louis 911 center, police and fire leaders say the future is bright."I believe the state of the 911 center is very good," Major Eric Larson, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, said.The departments recognize the speed bumps along the way, though. In recent years, people have complained about not being able to reach a 911 call takers.Larson said that often happens when multiple people are calling about the same incident."If you call and you and everyone else is calling about a critical incident, we will have some challenges getting those calls answered," Larson said. The plan to build a high-speed train that will connect Las Vegas with Southern California took another important step this month.The massive transportation project by Brightline could begin as soon as this year, with an estimated completion plotted for around 2027.Last week, the Federal Rail Authority completed its environmental review for a portion of the project, and found "no significant impact" along one of the critical sections of the proposed track.The segment is located between Rancho Cucamonga and Victorville, with the tracks set to be built within the right of way of the 15 Freeway. A downtown Los Angeles man was found guilty of hacking into social media accounts and stealing around $740,000 through SIM-swapping scams.Amir Hossein Golshan, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of unauthorized access to a protected computer to obtain information, one count of wire fraud, and one count of accessing a computer to defraud and obtain value, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.Golshan faces up to 20 years in federal prison for the wire fraud count and up to five years in prison for each of the computer access counts.From at least April 2019 to February 2023, authorities said Golshan was responsible for multiple online schemes that defrauded hundreds of victims through social media scams, Zelle payment fraud, and Apple support impersonations.“In total, Golshan’s entire scheme caused approximately $740,000 in losses to hundreds of victims over several years,” officials said.One of the ways Goshan scammed his victims was through the practice of “SIM swapping.” The process...Man Injured in Bus Accident on 16th Street [Phoenix, AZ]

Pedestrian Hospitalized after Being Struck by Bus near Camelback RoadPHOENIX, AZ (July 19, 2023) – Thursday morning, a man was injured in a bus accident on 16th Street near Camelback Road.The accident happened around 6:45 a.m., at a bus stop near the intersection.According to reports, the collision involved a pedestrian and a city bus. Investigators said that as the bus began pulling away, the man lunged into the path of the vehicle. (KRON) -- Two northbound lanes of Highway 101 were blocked Wednesday afternoon due to a crash, California Highway Patrol confirmed. The crash happened at Highway 101 and Dry Creek Road in Healdsburg. CHP believes five or six vehicles were involved in the crash. There were no fatalities as of 7 p.m. Wednesday, but a helicopter was used to take one victim to a hospital, CHP said. A Sig Alert has been issued for the crash. There is no estimated time for the lanes to reopen. The cause of the collision and number of injuries are still unknown at this time.
