AUSTIN (The Texas Tribune) -- Rep. Bryan Slaton resigned from the Texas House on Monday after an investigative panel found he had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 19-year-old woman on his staff, providing her with enough alcohol before their encounter that she felt dizzy and had double vision.Pressure had mounted on Slaton to resign since Saturday, when the House General Investigative Committee released a 16-page report finding he had engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with an aide. The committee of three Republicans and two Democrats recommended that Slaton be the first state representative expelled from the body since 1927.Texas Right to Life, a staunchly anti-abortion group that was a key supporter of Slaton’s political campaigns, revoked its endorsement Monday, saying it was a “Christian organization” that held its staff, board members, scholarship recipients and political endorsees to high moral standards.“In light of recent reports and the findings of the Texas...$1 million scratch-off ticket claimed in northwest Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Like many other colleges and universities, St. Edward's University held its graduation on Saturday. One of the students who graduated is Luke Tobias from San Antonio. His twin brother, Ethan, will be graduating in the fall following a heavy course load. It's not unusual for twins to graduate during the same year, but these two bring something more to their college curriculum. They are committed to reducing the carbon footprint to help preserve and protect our environment. Luke's commitment went as far as starting a garden on campus to help fellow students learn how to grow their own food. He said the garden was laden with weeds and tall grass before he got involved in making it a food-producing source. He said he had the complete backing of the school's administration.Ethan's work not only helped sustainability efforts at St. Edward's but the City of Austin, as well. On Thursday, a Ramsey County District Court judge appointed a compliance facilitator and gave the city of St. Paul two weeks to produce internal emails, text messages and documents related to the proposed Summit Avenue bike trail, as requested by bike trail opponent Robert Cattanach. On Friday, the city fired back with a legal appeal that says, in a word, no.The city’s seven-page filing with the Minnesota Court of Appeals seeks to overturn Ramsey County District Court Judge Patrick Diamond’s May 4 order on the basis that, since last July, multiple city departments have already produced nearly 2,500 pages of documents in response to Cattanach’s 18 records requests.Calling their records searches to date exhaustive, officials with the mayor’s office indicated in an email last week they would comply with any decision of the court pending the outcome of their legal appeal, but “duplicating work already conducted by city staff at taxpayers’ expense does ...Loons star Emanuel Reynoso’s return to MLS games ‘might be a few weeks’

The biggest step has been achieved: Loons star midfielder Emanuel Reynoso returned to Minnesota on Saturday. But tedious steps remain: Reynoso passing medical tests; MLS sharing what Reynoso must do to have his suspension lifted; Reynoso returning to training sessions, mending relationships with teammates, improving his fitness and form. Then, finally, playing in games.“I’m delighted he is here,” manager Adrian Heath said Monday in Blaine. “I want to get him into the group and get him integrated back into the group because as I’ve said all along there is not a team in this league who is not better without having a really good Emanuel Reynoso. We are the same.”The Loons (3-4-3, 12 points) are winless in five straight matches over the previous month. Without their MLS All-Star playmaking midfielder, they have scored only 10 goals in 10 game this season.“We need him in the team,” Heath continued. “We’ve spent an awful lot of money bringing him here. ST. LOUIS -- Strong storms are expected to develop in the St. Louis area Monday afternoon and evening. The intersection of the rain-cooled outflow boundary with the approaching cold front and pressure system is my greatest concern. The storms in Missouri may start back up by early to mid-afternoon. St. Louis radar: See a map of current weather here Conditions will be favorable for those storms to move east across southern Missouri, mainly south of the Missouri River, where large hail, damaging winds are possible. The tornado risk is on the low end of the spectrum, but it's not zero. The exception may be right at the intersection of all those boundaries. This is somewhere between Jefferson City, Rolla, and Springfield, Missouri. The Storm Prediction Center has much of the area in a level 2 risk today, although I think the greatest risk is from the south end of the metropolitan St. Louis area and further south into southern Missouri. The general area I have highlighted with the red c...Latest news
