OAKLAND — An Alameda County jury acquitted a 26-year-old man on murder charges but found him guilty of voluntary manslaughter, a charge that can apply when someone uses legally “imperfect” self-defense, court records show.Jevanni Knight was found guilty of manslaughter and being a felon in possession of a firearm in the 2019 killing of El Cerrito resident Michael Sadberry, who had been in a fist fight with one of Knight’s friends. The verdict came back July 6 after a trial that lasted roughly two weeks.During trial, Knight’s attorney argued that the shooting was self-defense, whereas the prosecution contended Knight was guilty of murder for using a gun during a fist fight. From Bette Davis to Cate Blanchett as Queen Elizabeth I, from Charles Laughton to Jonathan Rhys Meyers as King Henry VIII, from “Fire Over England” to “Wolf Hall,” the Tudor era has kept movies, operas, TV series and books stuffed with drama and intrigue.
