Thankful for April showers but not the hail It's always a plus when we report a month with above-normal rainfall because there haven't been too many of them. That's what happened in April. Normally Austin's 10th wettest month with just 2.42", this April did much better with 4.18". Rain was measured (.01" or more) seven days. In fact, 2.43" of that 4.18" was measured on April 6 and 7, putting Austin over the normal total very early in the month. It's the most rain measured in April since a most-welcomed 7.28" in 2019.April 2023 is the first month with above-normal rain since November 2022 when 4.14" was measured, a surplus of 1.22". And, it's the wettest month since 5.72" in August 2022. Yes, August. The surplus of rain was not enough to make even a dent in our ongoing drought. Not enough rain in April to ease the droughtThe "generous" rainfall, however, came with a heaping helping of severe weather events, especially the last week of the month. In Game 7 win, Warriors prove they have what it takes to make a deep run SACRAMENTO — Steph Curry and Draymond Green wore all black to Sacramento. Outsiders could have seen it as an omen; if the Warriors lose Game 7 in hostile Sacramento, they’d be well-dressed for the dynasty’s funeral.Green, Curry and the entire Warriors team heard those outside voices anticipating the end of their season. Not only would a Game 7 defeat mark the team’s first first-round elimination in the Steve Kerr era, it’d bring an onslaught of speculation that the dynasty had seen its final minutes. The Warriors made it clear from tip-off on Sunday afternoon that the end — of this season, and the dynasty — is nowhere near. It’s no coincidence that the words “Trophy Hunting” were etched in white thread on Curry’s black cotton hooded sweater. After becoming the first player in NBA history to score 50 points in a Game 7, it became clear Curry and his teammates have more trophies to hunt and steam to run on in their ninth ...

Kurtenbach: Steph Curry built the Warriors dynasty. He refused to let it end in Game 7 SACRAMENTO — Steph Curry built this Warriors dynasty, this one-of-a-kind winning machine. He decides when it ends. And Sunday was not the day.The smallest man on the court put the Warriors — and all they have accomplished over the last decade — on his back in a win-or-go-home Game 7 against the Warriors’ NorCal rivals, the Kings, in Sacramento. And he was beyond great in the Warriors’ 120-100 win. He was legendary.Curry scored an NBA Game 7 record 50 points on Sunday, breaking the will of a Kings team that had gone punch-for-punch with the Warriors in this series, while further bolstering his legacy as one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA.Tactics, emotion, pace, and execution — none of that stuff mattered in Game 7.The Warriors had Curry. The Kings did not.And that’s why the Warriors have more games to play this season. On Tuesday in San Francisco, they’ll start a second-round series against the Lakers and frequent adversary LeBron James.“There’...

Harper could return to Phillies lineup Tuesday at Dodgers HOUSTON (AP) — Star Bryce Harper could return to the Philadelphia Phillies lineup as early as Tuesday if an exam on his surgically repaired right elbow goes well. On Monday in Los Angeles, the two-time National League MVP will visit Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who performed his Tommy John surgery last November.“It’ll be tomorrow and then we’ll see what happens,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Sunday. “I don’t think, just talking with Harp, I don’t think he’ll play tomorrow even if he’s cleared. But hopefully, he gets cleared.”The Phillies open at three-game series at the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday night. If Harper returns Tuesday, it would be significantly ahead of the timetable offered soon after he had the surgery Nov. 23, when he was expected to return near the All-Star break. Harper, who has been facing pitching for a few weeks, will be the team’s designated hitter in his return. “He’s pretty geeked up about getting out there and playing,” Thomson said. “He’s itching.”___AP MLB: htt...
